Pickering is a beautiful North Yorkshire town and the starting point of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, England's longest steam railway. The track runs through the North York Moors National Park to Grosmont then on to Whitby with its mainline connections. You can take bikes on the train and enjoy cycling from one of the Moors stations.

If you are interested in exploring the North Yorkshire Moors, Pickering is the ideal base. On the main route from the Vale of York to the Coast, Pickering is a pleasant place to stop and relax for a while.

For excitement you can go off road at the UK's largest off road driving centre, for family thrills Flamingo Land Theme Park and Zoo is just minutes away so there's plenty to do for adults and children alike.

Nearby is Dalby Forest, a wonderful natural resource of activities including Go Ape an aerial assault course,with many different walks, cycle rides and barbeque areas.
More sedate tastes are catered for with a trip to Eden Camp, a WW11 prisoner of war camp, now restored as a themed museum. Castle Howard is a wonderful stately home featured in Brideshead Revisited and well worth a Visit.

York City is in easy reach with its Cathederal, historic shops and Jorvik Viking Centre - Viking themed displays.
